What is Mantra Choir?
Mantra Choir is a unique experience in community devotional expression. Sitting somewhere between Rock Choir and the popular kirtan performances of Krishna Das, Mantra Choir blends the ancient euphoric call and response art of kirtan with upbeat counterpoint melodies to provide a beautifully rich sound and experience.
Like Kirtan Yoga, there is a leader who sets the Mantra and mood for the congregation to follow but the added benefit to those responding in Mantra Choir is that once all the counterpoint Mantras have been apportioned to the audience, the "ownership" of the experience from then on, is the audiences as much as the leaders. Which is why it is such an exciting and spontaneous affair.
Wherever possible, Jayadev likes to source the musical accompaniment from the voices in the audience, where on the spot he gives them beat-boxed drum lines and bass notes to sing which are then cleverly looped and played back to them as the backing for the mantra the choir will then develop into a multi part singing experience.
Each choir is built in just minutes from scratch to a crescendo of ecstatic voices singing timeless devotional kirtan chants in harmony.

An Introduction to the Mantra Choir experience
"Here we have the opportunity to explore the intensity and sweetness of the Holy Names of God. Although any Sacred Names can be sung with pleasing results for the chanters I have chosen to utilise those Names coming from the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition.
The followers of this tradition claim that mantras have a great power to uplift, heal and enlighten but those mantras that include the Names of God are the most efficacious and potent.
Further, they posit that the Names of God are actually non-different from God. But practical realization of this point is not cheaply and simply proven. It requires more than just lip-service. It requires a whole hearted application. Mantra Choir provides this process." Jayadev
